Vector Institute Digital Talent Hub Privacy Statement

The Vector Institute (“Vector”) takes your privacy seriously. Please read this privacy statement carefully, as it outlines how employers and Vector use and share the information you provide to us through the Vector Digital Talent Hub (“the Hub”). It discusses the use of both your personal information (information that can be linked to you individually) and de-identified, aggregated information (which can no longer be linked to you individually).

This privacy statement should be read in conjunction with Vector’s privacy policies, which detail our information handling practices more broadly, including with respect to sharing personal information with service providers, disclosing personal information as permitted or required by law, transferring personal information outside of Canada, information security, and your right to access and correct your personal information.

The Hub is powered by Jobboard.io, which is owned by ZipRecruiter. By using the Hub, you agree to the terms of this privacy statement, Vector’s privacy policies, Jobboard.io’s Privacy Policy and ZipRecruiter’s Terms of Use.

Who sees and uses your personal information?

    When you use the Hub, you become digitally connected with employers using the Hub (the “employers”). The employers include Vector’s industry sponsors and may include other institutions such as health-related organizations, governmental organizations, and start-up/scale-up companies.

    Personal information from your Profile

    When you first create your Profile on the Hub, the Profile will not be visible to employers. If you choose to make your Profile visible, most of the personal information about you on your Profile will become visible. By making your Profile visible, you agree to allow employers to view any or all of this personal information. You agree to allow employers to contact you directly regarding relevant job opportunities. You also agree and understand that any personal information that you make visible becomes subject to the privacy policies of those employers, and that Vector cannot be held liable for their actions and privacy practices.

    Some of the personal information in your Profile, such as your preferred pronoun, will never become visible to employers. Vector will identify any such personal information in the Profile Creation Form.

    All of the personal information in your Profile, whether visible or invisible to employers, will be visible to Vector as an administrator of the Hub. This includes your preferred pronoun, although Vector will never use your preferred pronoun information in a way that can be linked back to you individually. Vector may use other personal information in your Profile to administer the Hub, verify Vector-related information in the Hub (for instance, if you indicate in your Profile that you are affiliated with Vector), evaluate and market Vector’s programs and services (for example, by checking if you will be attending a particular Vector program that may be particularly relevant to you, and/or informing you about that program), or as permitted or required by Vector’s privacy policies and applicable law. By using the Hub, you understand and agree that Vector may use your personal information in this manner.

    Personal information from your submitted job applications

    When you submit a job application through the Hub, you agree to allow employers to view and use the personal information in your job application for the purpose of recruitment and to contact you directly. You also agree and understand that any personal information in your submitted job application becomes subject to the privacy policies of those employers, and that Vector cannot be held liable for their actions and privacy practices.

    All of the personal information in any submitted job application will be available to Vector as an administrator of the Hub. However, Vector will use this personal information only for the purposes of tracking your application and promoting it to potential employers, administering the Hub, or as permitted or required by Vector’s privacy policies and applicable law. By using the Hub, you understand and agree that Vector may use your personal information in this manner.

    How does Vector use de-identified, aggregate information?

    Vector (or an agent acting on its behalf) may de-identify the personal information that you provide through your Hub Profile and your submitted job applications. “De-identify” means that Vector will remove all personal identifiers, such that the information can no longer be associated with an individual user. Once the information is de-identified, Vector may analyze it in de-identified, aggregated form, and may use those analyses for such purposes as:

    • Learning more about the job candidates and employers who are using the Hub, in order to build the user base of the Hub, monitor and improve the Hub’s functionality and services, understand and track business trends (such as the types of jobs being posted, the types of qualifications being sought in candidates, and overall labour participation), and enhance Vector’s programming and services.
    • Providing an individual employer with aggregated information that may be of interest to them, such as information about the user base of the Hub, about how candidates use the Hub to apply for jobs with the employer or the employer’s peers in a particular sector, or about trends reflected in the use of the Hub. Vector may charge a fee in connection with providing this information.
    • Providing similar aggregated information to other entities, such as industry or trade groups, educational institutions, AI ecosystem parties, government funding partners and other public bodies, and other interested parties, for a fee.

    By using the Hub, you understand and agree that Vector (or an agent acting on its behalf) may de-identify your personal information and then use it for purposes such as those described above.

      If you choose to sign up for email job alerts through the Hub, you agree to be contacted by Vector about new job opportunities posted on the Hub, in accordance with the email preferences you have selected.
